We are now in February and as I said before I am struggling with motivation, lack of training time and trying to manage a whole new routine so I have now set some goals in stone and signed myself up for some events to hopefully give myself a much needed push, and with the days gradually getting longer the thought of some big miles with (fingers crossed) glorious sunshine is very exciting indeed!
Don’t get me wrong once I’m over the initial tantrum off having to layer up and get myself out the door and into the cold and wet I’m quite happy to be out continuing to build up some winter miles, good company is usually a big help though.
One of the big events on my calendar is the UK power pageant where I will be handing over my crown, with this being just over 3 months away I’m having to rein in the coffee and cake stops, and say good bye cappuccino and millionaires short bread!
So far I have three definite cycling events in my calendar, the first is a locally run event the double devil taking place in may and as it stands will be my first event of the year, second I have planned is the Velothon and this year I will carrying plenty of inner tubes and even patches to avoid a repeat of my plague of punctures last year, the final event I have decided on is the Merlin ride, an event I have taken part in every year since taking up cycling however this year all the routes have changed in order to celebrate ten years of the event.
There are a few maybes including Llanelli sprint triathlon that I have competed in for the last two years however due to my usual lack of swimming and running am currently debating whether or not it’s a good idea to drag myself around this course yet again, I guess I’m just waiting for the usual bit of persuasion.
I am also starting to get back into the swing of things in the gym, braving some heavier weights again along with a few reps although I am still following a rehab program for my ankle and finding it has good days followed by bad.
Gran Fondo Bianchi Double Devil – 28th may
Velothon Wales – 9th July
Merlin Ride – 20th August
suggestions on events worth doing are more then welcome.
