The iconic Cheshire Cat, one of the first major Sportives in the UK is back with the best of what was originally created, great routes, fantastic feed stations, the classic Mow Cop and the Velo29 twist, a great price! Setting off from the beautiful Queens Park in Crewe, a fantastic backdrop, you find yourself winding your way out of Crewe to find some quiet roads in the Cheshire countryside, nothing too strenuous a gentle spin around picturesque country lanes.
The Daffodils Sportive, named after the World famous Farndale Daffodils was a new event in 2013. All 3 distances leave Thirsk under the supervision of NEG Escort Motorcycles and head straight onto quiet country lanes, small Villages and some beautiful North Yorkshire scenery. We had always have over 500 riders in the event. The routes are not super challenging so lots of the groups will stay together. A great way to meet new cycling friends and ride in Pelotons rather than alone.
This classic sportive, named after and on the same route as the original Tour of the Peak road race, which ran from 1943 through to 2005. Have you got what it takes to attempt this challenging ride? The long route is probably one of the toughest challenges that can be done at 115 Miles and over 10,000ft of climbing, it certainly isn’t to be underestimated! A little more tame but still with the Killer Mile of Winnats Pass, the medium route is 62 miles but still manages to squeeze in over 5000ft of climbing, a great starting point if you are looking for a challenge and the long route is just too much!
Velo29 bring you their first Ultra Sportive, The Yorkshire Beast, possibly the toughest ride in the UK. With over 200 Miles and 5000m of climbing, only the strongest will survive! Starting in the idyllic surroundings of the Camp Hill Estate near Bedale and only 5 minutes from the A1 where camping, bar and food options will be available for the nights either side of the event. You can take on the challenge of cycling both the Yorkshire Dales and the Yorkshire Moors all in one day.
Starting from the new HQ of Darlington Arena and heading out onto what will be new roads for many of you Velo29 Sportive riders. As usual there are 3 distances in the event, short medium and long and as always we’ve included some great roads in amazing scenery away from any busy traffic. The routes will head out in the direction of Richmond, mostly flat Country lanes, nothing too tough in the early miles.
The Ripon Tour Sportive will give you a unique opportunity to relive the memories with 1,000’s of cycling fans and ride on the now hallowed roads from stage 1 of the 2014 Tour de France. From the climbs, still covered in riders names, to the fast descents and beautiful villages, this Sportive brings you as close to the Tour route as you are going to get. For riders of all abilities, with great support on well-signed routes so you can’t get lost, the Ripon Tour Sportive is a “must do” event for any serious cycling fan.
The Stockton Sportive, one of the most inclusive events in the calendar! From the “tougher than the Fed Whitton” Tour de Moor 100 miles/ 11,000ft of climbing route right down to the nearly flat Spin ride, there is something for evryone! Any of the 4 routes available are stunning. Depart the established event site of Stockton Riverside on closed roads and ride away from the urban area escorted by motor bikes like a star in the Tour de France!
The World famous Regatta, now in its 176th year is one of the oldest such events in the World. The organisers wanted to add an exciting new element to the event. Something that draws young people and families as well as giving those who already attend and the people of the Town a new focus and evolution of this wonderful weekend. The HQ and Start/ Finish is on the Cliff Top near the famous Whale Bone where we’ll assemble on a closed road section.
The course has been carefully put together to be rideable by Cyclo Cross, Gravel and Mountain Bikes. All the route is rideable, the split between on and off-road is approximately 50/50, when we are on-road though we are able to explore some fantastic roads which would normally be dead ends! The Sportive is split into 7 road and 9 off-road sectors, much like Paris-Roubaix with the infamous cobbled sectors! Each sector is sign posted so you know where you are at all times. Vital should you need our support!
The White Horse is a fine way to end your Sportive Season. With three distance options there is something to suit all abilities. From the 26 mile short route with one “challenge” climb, the Medium route with some major hills and the long route which tackles both Carlton and White Horse Bank. The routes are all really well designed and though the distances are not overly long there are no sections which are just there to get from A to B. Every mile is on beautiful North Yorkshire Country roads with great views, breath taking views and hardly a car in sight.
